One evening at dinner in our home with close friends, we started to talk about the challenge of staying fit as you enter your 60’s. Before I knew it, our serious minded lawyer-friends were up from the table showing us yoga poses and raving about their new-found instructor, Juliana Fair. They mentioned that she gives classes in Washington DC but they told me to consider private lessons, with the full attention from this very attentive instructor. I tried it and I was hooked from the first visit.

With Juliana, I am making progress in Iyengar Yoga, which is described online as “gentle, detail-oriented and slow-paced.” It is ideal for beginners but that does not mean that it is simple; far from it. In our private sessions, Juliana makes sure that I am always striving for more demanding poses, while at the same time staying mindful of the all-important breathing rhythm that defines Yoga at any level. For me, the miracle of Yoga is that you end up both tired and rejuvenated after each session. I am delighted with the improved flexibility, strength and balance that I have achieved over time. It is a gift!
